@siracusa Of course that would be broken. It obviously is broken. But turning off IPv6 on the router level (not just the devices) might narrow down the cause of the problem.
I noticed that I have to solve *way* more captchas in IPv6 enabled networks than in IPv4 networks.
@teilweise IPv6 is turned off on my router, FWIW.

Thinking about this talk (thanks @douwe) - I can't help but think 2 things:
1 - What needs to change to ensure that public organisations like a city council is able to pay/fund groups like Mastodon (as Douwe says, I think for bureaucratic reasons, they couldn't pay *anything* to Mastodon, but they do pay Microsoft (Big Tech) large sums without issue $$$.
This feels incredibly wrong. What has to change so they can receive this funding? (I guess some legal change is required - so could a business entity be setup that would then donate those funds to Mastodon?)
2 - Could someone create a directory/database of city councils, pulling through their social feeds, and flagging those which aren't active on the likes of Mastodon?
And then publicly we put pressure on those, requesting that they stop fuelling Big Tech with their updates, and thus start adopting and engaging with the likes of Mastodon?
This could be as simple as Mastodon or Fediverse people politely emailing/pestering local councils, asking them to make the switch.
(speaking for myself - local councils here are all using Instagram, Facebook... why is Mastodon neglected?)
If anyone has energy or appetite for discussing the above points further - ping me.
I personally think this is a nice way we can push back against Big Tech in a fairly meaningful & productive way.
@matttutt @douwe @_elena @mellifluousbox We (Mastodon) will happily provide quotes for Mastodon services, education, support or improvements to the product. We know how to navigate procurement and have contracts with some cities and governments already, either directly or through local partners.

Respect goes to people's labor, never their products. I like BSD, but I respect the developers because they have done the work to develop the expertise that merits the respect.
There is no reason to offer that respect to people who haven't done the work.
I have more respect for people who spent a Saturday evening failing to get code to compile, or trying to write a story that doesn't work, or struggling to get perspective right on a watercolor, than to anyone prompting an LLM.
